Kitchen油烟 is a common source of frustration for many households—it’s not only unhygienic but also poses risks to our health. Fortunately, the Shenyang kitchen ventilation project can help you tackle this issue once and for all. So, how exactly do we address this problem? Let’s find out together!
Every household has a flue system in their kitchen, with both main and secondary flues—where the main flue runs through the entire building, while the secondary flue is relatively independent. It’s separated from the main flue by a perforated baffle, with the upper and lower sections sealed off by floor slabs. Typically, kitchen油烟 (cooking fumes) first flow into the secondary flue for temporary storage, before gradually passing through the holes in the baffle and entering the main flue. This design effectively keeps kitchen油烟 contained, preventing it from spreading to other areas of the building.
The main and secondary flue ducts must always be kept intact together. In many residential communities, homeowners often experience backdrafting or cross-flue issues—likely caused by improper connections between the exhaust pipe and the main flue during interior renovations, or by removing the secondary flue altogether to save indoor space. If the secondary flue is eliminated while still connected to the main flue, the intense upward suction created can lead to a "cupping effect," where, under conditions of lower air pressure, kitchen smoke from another household may actually be forced into your home. On the other hand, the secondary flue plays a crucial role in buffering this pressure, making it essential not to remove it.
Some people, dissatisfied with their home’s inadequate smoke exhaust system, simply demolish the secondary flue and then bend the main chimney upward by 45 degrees—effectively addressing part of the backdraft issue. However, you should *never* resort to this makeshift solution. Even a slight upward turn in the chimney can still lead to smoke and odors leaking back into the house. While installing a check valve might help block these unwanted intrusions, if the valve isn’t cleaned regularly, it may fail to seal properly, allowing smoke and smells to reappear. Moreover, if every household adopts this approach, it could severely clog the shared flue system, ultimately hindering proper ventilation and airflow.
